Internet Contract for Elementary School Students

The use of the Internet can enhance learning and provide resources from all over the world. The school system makes every effort to prevent students from exposure to objectionable or offensive materials, including the use of Internet filtering software.  Staff members do their best to guide and monitor student use of the Internet, but staff cannot be held liable if a student accidentally or willfully goes to an objectionable site.  Please read and discuss the following student/parent contract with your child, then complete and return the bottom portion of this letter signed in the appropriate places.

§  While using a computer in a classroom, lab or the media center, I will use the Internet only for school-related projects and visit only the sites assigned by my teacher. I will print only that information approved by the teacher.  I will use all computer equipment with care and respect.

§  When using computers in the school, I will respect the computer rights of others. I will not type or use any inappropriate or unacceptable words on the computer.  If I see any type of inappropriate material on the computer screen, I will immediately tell my teacher or supervising staff member.

§  I will limit my use of the Internet in school for educational purposes assigned by my teacher.  I will NOT “surf” the Internet or visit “chat rooms.”  I will never log-on to the Internet without permission from a teacher or supervising staff member.

§  I understand that my use of the Internet may be monitored. Please sign the contract below and return to your teacher.
